Our Beginnings…

NOFO Soaps (Norfolk, VA) opened for business in 2012 after the owner, Juliette, had a vivid dream about being a maker of lavender soap (true story).  Believing the dream was God given, she was determined to learn the process of soap making and the benefits of the individual oils. She recruited her husband, Steve, to be her right hand man and together they have made some fabulous soaps. All the soaps serve a purpose…from showering, shaving to helping problem skin. They are made in small batches using quality organic or natural oils, butters, clays, essential oils and/or phthalates-free fragrance oils.  Often used in the recipes are homegrown lemon balm, peppermint, hops, rosemary, and of course, lavender. Skin is the largest organ of our body and it needs to be cared for by keeping it clean and nourished. Soap is used everyday, so why should it be ordinary…when your soap…should be awesome!

Steve had the courage to try making soap first (pictured above). However, he chose the hardest soap to make for beginners…BEER soap! To our surprise it turned out great and we were hooked on soap making from then on.

Luckily I found the courage to make soap. I now make a variety that can be found on this site or at our local Norfolk, VA farmers market. We love all our customers.

Why is it called NOFO Soaps? The NOFO (the North Fork of Long Island, NY) is where I spent my childhood summers at my grandparent’s beach house (circa 1890s). I still vacation at this old house every year. Its picture can be found on the label on our soap called “Beach House”.

“Soap…should be awesome!”
